The parents of the 21 children who died in June this year at Enyobeni tarven located in Scenery Park in East London, said there is still a long way to go. They do not see an ending anytime soon as they assess the ongoing case pertaining to the owners of Enyobeni, Siyakwamkela Ndevu and his wife Vuyokazi Ndevu.
The parents said this outside the East London Magistrate Court on Wednesday this week, when the couple appeared in court for selling alcohol to minors and other charges.
The case is set for next month as the court says it is preparing for the start of the trial.
The parent of one of the Enyobeni victims, Khululekile Ncandani, says things carrying on normally after the death of so many children does not please them as parents. She says things have not been easy ever since the incident happened.
She says that their support as parents and their unity strengthens them in this journey. Ncandani says it is better now because there is progress in the courts even though the court said it will continue next month.
Ntombizonke Mgangala, who is also a parent who was in court yesterday, says she is exhausted, and they are tired as parents because it has been a long ride.
Mgangala went on to say that, however, they are happy because at least there is progress with the case and there is no silence. She says that this time they were accommodated as parents in court, and they were assigned seats.
In the previous court proceeding they were outside, and the parents were not allowed inside because it was said to be full.
There have also been unconfirmed rumours by the parents that the couple are still operating their liquor business, that they are operating three different taverns in East London.
