THE SOUTH African Social Security Agency (Sassa) in the Northern Cape is continuing its drive to assist social grant beneficiaries in transitioning from the Sassa gold card to the Postbank black card before the March 20, 2025 deadline.
Having already hosted several Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programmes (ICROP) in February, Sassa remains committed to ensuring that beneficiaries who have not yet switched their cards can do so without disruption to their grant payments. ICROP sites have been set up in various communities, and more events are planned throughout March to reach as many people as possible.
Upcoming ICROP Events:
Beneficiaries still using the Sassa gold card are urged to attend these ICROP events, bringing along their valid South African Identity Document (ID) or Temporary ID to receive their new Postbank black card for free. Alternatively, they can update their records with new banking details for direct deposit payments.
‘No One Left Behind’
Sassa acting regional executive manager Karabelo Mojanaga emphasised the urgency of making the switch before the deadline.
“Beneficiaries that are still using the Sassa gold card are encouraged to take advantage of the special ICROP initiative and visit their nearest site to ensure they are ready for the March 20 deadline,” she said.
Mojanaga added that the Social Grant Payment System’s hours will also be extended to capture requests for change of payment methods. The Sassa System will be operational from 6am to 7.30pm during the week and weekends until the end of March.
“The ultimate goal is to ensure that no one is left behind during this card transition process so beneficiaries may continue receiving their grants payments uninterrupted and support themselves and their families,” said Mojanaga.
Where to Get the Postbank Black Card
Beneficiaries can also replace their Sassa gold cards at participating retailers, including Checkers, Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Usave, and Boxer. To find the nearest replacement site, they can dial *120*355#.
Consequences of Missing the Deadline
Beneficiaries who do not switch to the Postbank black card by March 20, 2025 will experience delays in accessing their grant payments. However, they will still be able to apply for a new card after this date.
