The City has officially launched the public participation process for a proposed mixed-use development, including affordable housing and commercial opportunities, situated on prime property in Green Point.
The property at 1 Three Anchor Bay Road houses the Colin Eglin library, Sea Point civic centre and the Pinocchio creche.
According to a statement from the City, they intend to retain existing community amenities such as the library service point and civic hall on the site, with the land release process set to identify parts of the site that may need to remain in public ownership to accommodate this.
“The City is committed to partnering with the public to help drive economic and socio-economic benefits while increasing affordable housing in the area to benefit Cape Town. This is a long-term project which will include detailed studies to result in the best development plan for the site that resonates with the market, while advancing the City’s socio-economic objectives. The City is seeking to realise the full market value of the land and expects to raise significant revenue from the land sale, and future rates contributions from the development, for reinvestment in service delivery and infrastructure upgrades throughout the metro,” said James Vos, mayoral committee member for economic growth.
The City further adds that they will consider the possible inclusion of the existing tenants where feasible. There are four active leases in place on the site that will be considered based on the outcome of the planned specialist studies. All existing use rights to the site are due to expire by September 2025.
