Sarmiethon spreads the love for needy kids

Corporate teams swapped spreadsheets for sandwich spreads at the annual Sarmiethon to help needy children.

The event was held by food-relief organisation Ladles of Love and a fund-management company at the V&A Waterfront’s Maker’s Landing on Friday November 1 to celebrate World Sandwich Day on November 3.

The aim was to make 75 000 sandwiches in a single morning at simultaneous events in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The total number of sandwiches made for the day was 67,000.

A R25 000 donation secured a four-hour slot for one of the 10-member teams or a two-hour slot for two teams.

“For every team entry, apart from the ‘feel-good’ sandwich-making experience, the donation of R25 000 will enable our Ladles of Love Nourish Our Children programme to provide food for two healthy meals a day to 2500 small children at preschools in impoverished communities,” said Sarmiethon organiser Alison McCutcheon.

Anyone can keep donating to the ongoing Nourish the Children programme by making a once-off or monthly donation. A donation of R250 helps feed a little child two meals daily for a month.
