Durban man found shot, stabbed on N2 highway

Durban – A 39-year-old man was found shot and stabbed in a white Toyota Quantum on the northbound lane of the N2 in the vicinity of the King Shaka International Airport off-ramp this morning.

According to private security company, Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), they received a call just before 7am requesting assistance.

Rusa spokesperson, Prem Balram said that the caller alleged that there was a man who was hanging out of a vehicle.

“According to the caller, the victim was bleeding from his injuries and it could not be confirmed if he was deceased,” said Balram.

He said that a team of their officers and medics were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, he said, it was established that the man who was employed at a marine services company was shot in the back and stabbed twice in the head.

He was declared deceased by paramedics from the provincial ambulance service, said Balram.

“His work colleagues who were called out to the scene stated that the deceased had left their depot in Mobeni at approximately 6am and was travelling to Hluhluwe, northern KZN when the incident occurred.”

Balram added that the deceased’s Huawei P40 cellphone was missing and some of his personal belongings were discovered outside the vehicle.

Provincial police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele confirmed the incident.

Mbele said that on police arrival at the scene, they found that the deceased had an open wound on the forehead and gunshot wound on the left upper back.

“He was identified by his colleagues as he was driving a Quantum company car, belonging to a Marine service,” she said.

She said that at this stage, the motive for the murder was not yet known.

Mbele added that case of murder was opened at the Tongaat Police station.
