Top-level netball games in South Africa will soon return to the courts. Cecilia Molokwane, the president of Netball South Africa, made this announcement last week during a press conference in Johannesburg.
The Ngoako Ramahlodi Sports Complex in Seshego, Limpopo, will host the Telkom Netball League’s opening game on April 27. The netball teams will be divided into Netball League A and Netball League B as normal.
In addition to committing to netball, Telkom is a major sponsor of the Netball World Cup, which will take place in Cape Town in July of this year. The Telkom Netball League matches will be held in two provinces: Limpopo and Gauteng.
“We are thrilled about Telkom’s dedication to the growth of sports. Their continued sponsorship of the Netball League demonstrates their commitment to the sport. As the netball league’s governing body, we are quite appreciative of this,” Molokwane recently told reporters. While the season’s first leg will take place in Seshego, the second leg will take place in Pretoria at Heartfelt Arena.
On May 1, the season will come to an end in Limpopo. Gugu Mthembu, CEO of Telkom, stated that this is the year they are most delighted to have sponsored netball.
“We want South African talent to be showcased in the Telkom Netball League. By doing this, we aim to offer the South African people courage to face life’s challenges. The SPAR Proteas, South Africa’s national side, will be represented at the Netball World Cup by players and coaches from the Telkom Netball League,” Mthembu said.
The Eastern Cape Aloes will play in division one this season after being promoted from Netball League B.
