Hugo Broos confident of Bafana Bafana’s success

There is nowhere to run; South Africa has to fight to defeat Liberia. Tomorrow at 6pm at Orlando Stadium, the two countries will compete in an Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) encounter.

Bafana Bafana are under pressure going into the game after losing 2-0 to Morocco in the first leg last year. Hugo Broos is concerned about Liberia, who had a lot of time to prepare for tomorrow’s game, even though it is probable that they [Bafana Bafana] will not have too much trouble. “There are two crucial games coming up. The work done by Liberia over the previous few months demonstrates a highly dedicated squad,” Broos stated in a press conference at the FNB Stadium earlier this week.

According to reports, the Liberian players were promised large bonuses in an effort to persuade them to defeat Bafana Bafana. The majority of Liberia’s players who compete in Europe are present. “After its first match in Morocco last year, it was able to repair the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium as mandated by Fifa. The Liberian players are back and reportedly have been promised large sums of money in order to go to the next round.

“This suggests that we will encounter a team this is driven. It must not be in the least undermined since doing so would be a terrible mistake. We have better players (than Liberia), but that does not mean we will run over them; it is just something that will help us in the game,” Broos stated.

In Group K, there are now only three teams remaining after Zimbabwe was suspended. Two will advance to the next round. “After participating in the finals in 2022, we are quite confident. The good thing is that all teams must work in Group K. It’s good because we have players who want to be in the national team,” said Broos, who would rely on players like Percy Tau, Mihlali Mayambela, and Bongokuhle Hlongwane in the absence of Njabulo Blom.

The Mamelodi Sundowns players were also commended by the coach for arriving early at the camp despite playing last weekend in Sudan. After failing to qualify for the Afcon last year, Broos is hoping to get his squad there this time.
